Dubbed as the ‘Gateway to the North,’ Cabanatuan City is a first class component city and the largest urban city in Nueva Ecija. Looking back in history, it was initially founded as the Barrio of Gapan in 1750 and served as the Philippine’s capital during the American occupation.

In 1850, Cabanatuan stepped down from being Nueva Ecija’s capital and transferred the title to another historic town, San Isidro. The provincial capital title came back to Cabanatuan in 1917, but it was then during 1965 when the Congress made Palayan City the capital of Nueva Ecija which remains up to the present day.

Talking about climate, Cabanatuan City is the second hottest city in the Philippines, just falling behind Tuguegarao City in Cagayan Valley. This city houses more than 30,000 tricycles, earning its moniker, ‘The Tricycle Capital of the Philippines.’ As of the 2020 census, the city has an estimated population of 327,325 residents.
